Friday, December 1 2017 3:00 PM

When Colleyville residents spend money in the city, they’re participating in an exclusive cash back program.

With local sales tax, a portion of the money spent in Colleyville goes right back in to the community improving the city’s quality of life. Two-percent of the 8.25-percent sales tax go back to Colleyville. Out of that two-percent, one-percent goes to the general fund and the remaining percentage is split between voter-approved economic development and crime control initiatives.

In the Fiscal Year 2018 budget, nine Colleyville police officers are paid for by the sales-tax backed Colleyville Crime Control and Prevention District. The sales-tax dollars also go toward replacing police vehicles, new software, and new equipment.

The Colleyville Economic Development Corporation was established by voters in 1996 and continues to help fund Parks, Recreation, Senior Center, Library, Colleyville Center, and Economic Development needs including personnel, software, and hardware.

Overall, sales tax collected this year is up compared to last year. From December to October in 2017, the city has collected $3,750,749 in sales tax toward the general fund. A conservative estimate shows an increase in sales tax for Fiscal Year 2018 at $3.8 million. Next time you’re thinking about where to eat, shop, or have fun, remember to shop Colleyville, it just makes cents.
