Beautification efforts in the Village continue

Wednesday, November 15 2017 3:18 PM

The City of Colleyville continues its beautification efforts in the Village with several new enhancements. The reinvestment in downtown are punctuated with the transformation of the four-way stop at Main Street and Village Lane into a roundabout, freshly painted fire hydrants, a repaired clock outside City Hall, and new enhancements outside the Library.

“You can begin to see how the changes are improving the Village and City Hall experience,” Mayor Richard Newton said. “When this work is complete the area will feel like the Colleyville you know and love.”
Following City Council discussions, city staff modified the four-way stop at Main Street and Village Lane into a roundabout. This alteration should reduce confusion and improve traffic at the intersection.

Colleyville firefighters applied a new coat of red paint to the fire hydrants in the Village. Public Works staff took on the challenge of repairing a clock outside of City Hall that was donated by the Rotary Club. These city staff-led projects saved thousands of dollars by doing them in-house.

Visitors to the Library have been enjoying the new enhancements just outside in the breezeway. City staff has the water fountaining running with new lights and geysers. The Library has also added patio tables and chairs for a new way to enjoy a book and great weather, which staff welcomed by serving breakfast. Enhancements outside City Hall continue including potted plants. These changes make the Village a more enjoyable area to visit and businesses are taking notice. The City hopes to attract local and national restaurants and is exploring opening an entrepreneur work space in the commercial district.

This work is in addition to the acquisition of property to the east and south of City Hall and the investment into those spaces for events and public use.
