Train Noise and Activity on the Rise

Post Date:09/13/2018 9:40 AM

Residents may notice an increase in noise and activity on the train tracks through town. TEXRail recently started performing test runs on their line from Fort Worth to Grapevine and it runs through Colleyville.

The Federal Railroad Administration is requiring these trains to blow their horns as part of the testing procedure to certify train service for TEXRail. The Railroad Administration mandates a specific number of hours, runs, whistle tests, etc. as part of the testing and certification process. It is a lengthy, detailed process to ensure all trains and intersections are working properly.

TEXRail currently has 3 trains. They will be getting an additional train each month, for the next 4-5 months to take through the process. TEXRail anticipates the noise will probably get worse before it gets better.

Added to the testing and certification process, there are quite a few areas in Colleyville under road construction near the train track intersections. Any time a train driver feels a person or vehicle is too close to the tracks, may not be aware of oncoming train, or might be unable to hear the train due to construction noise, the driver will sound the horn as a safety precaution.

You can find more details about the project, including information on TEXRail’s timeline at their website, TEXRail.com.
