The Texas Public Information Act gives the public the right to request access to government information. Requests for public information must be submitted in writing to the Office of the City Secretary—an email or fax transmission will meet this requirement. It is important to note that requests for public information must ask for records or information already in existence. The act does not require a governmental body to create new information, do legal research, or to answer questions. A full explanation of the Texas Public Information Act, including exclusions to the act, is available online at the Texas Attorney General web page.
