IESI, the city's trash and recycle collection provider, will begin delivering the carts to Colleyville households on Oct. 22 and continue through Nov. 4. Once the carts are delivered, the current 18-gallon bins will no longer be collected. Residents can keep their bins for personal use or, from Oct. 31 through Nov. 4, the bins can be placed at the curb on a normally scheduled recycle day for IESI to dispose of.
Changes in Trash and Recycling Schedule
An automated collection truck will be used to collect recycle items from the new carts. After Nov. 4, only the IESI 65-gallon carts can be used for collection of recyclables. The truck will service the entire city, necessitating a change in the current pick-up days for both trash and recycling for some customers. Trash service will continue to be twice per week and recycle service will continue to be picked up once a week-but the collection days for many residents will change. See the table below for the new schedule.
Area | Current Trash Days | Current Recycle Days | New Trash Day | New Recycle Day |
Red | Monday/Thursday | Thursday | No change | No change |
Yellow | Monday/Thursday | Monday | No change | No change |
Green | Monday/Thursday | Thursday | Tuesday/Friday | Friday |
Blue | Monday/Thursday | Monday | Tuesday/Friday | Tuesday |

Rate Change
The transition to the 65-gallon carts will require a $1.15 rate increase per month for all residential customers. The new monthly rate for residential trash and recycle service will be $9.60 and $3.16, respectively, bringing the total monthly fee for trash and recycle service to $12.76 plus tax.
Service Guidelines
* Have the cart at the street or curbside by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day.
* Place the cart at least three feet from any vehicle or structure, such as mailboxes, utility
meters, poles, fences, etc. This allows room for the automated truck to pick up the cart.
* The front of the cart (non-handle side) should be facing the street. The cart must be
placed close enough to the curbside for the truck to reach it.
* All recycle materials must be contained within the cart and the lid should be closed. Only materials
inside the cart will be collected.
Accepted and non-accepted items
Providing residents with an opportunity to increase the amount of recycling (and thus reduce landfill material) benefits Colleyville residents both economically and environmentally. Since a portion of IESI's annual rate change request is tied to landfill disposal costs, and those costs are directly related to the amount of material disposed, an increase in recycling will help reduce landfill material and potentially reduce the amount of any future increases in trash and recycle collection service.
As part of contract negotiations for the new recycle program, the city has extended its contract with IESI. That extension requires IESI to forego any residential rate adjustments until Nov. 1, 2014, with limited exceptions for increases in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Questions & Answers
What is single-stream recycling?
Single stream recycling refers to a system in which all paper fibers, plastics, metals, and other containers are mixed together in a collection truck, instead of being sorted into separate commodities (newspaper, paperboard, corrugated fiberboard, plastic, glass, etc.) by the resident and handled separately throughout the collection process. In single stream, both the collection and processing systems are designed to handle this fully commingled mixture of recyclables, with materials being separated for reuse at a materials recovery facility.
How do I obtain a cart?
Carts will be delivered to all Colleyville residential customers. IESI will begin delivering the carts to Colleyville households on Oct. 22 and continue through Oct. 30.
What is the size of the 65-gallon wheeled cart?
The new carts are 40 inches high x 27 inches wide x 28 inches deep. The "footprint" for a cart is 21 inches x 22 inches. For comparison purposes, the 18-gallon bins have a "footprint" of 25 inches x 18 inches.
Does everyone have to use the 65-gallon cart?
All residents who recycle will be required to use the new cart. After Oct. 31, IESI will no longer collect recycling in the 18-gallon bins. With an automated truck, collecting recycle materials in anything but the IESI-provided 65-gallon cart is not feasible.
What do I do with the 18-gallon bin?
Residents can keep their bins for personal use or, from Oct. 31 through Nov. 4, the bins can be placed at the curb on a normally scheduled recycle day for IESI to pick up. All 18-gallon bins left at the curb during the week of Oct. 31 will be collected by IESI and will not be returned.
Does my recycling have to fit inside my cart?
All loose recyclables must be placed in the cart with the lid closed.
Should I put recyclables into bags in the new cart?
Do not place recyclables into bags before placing them in the cart.
Can I get more than one cart?
One 65-gallon cart is issued per household. Additional carts may be requested but will incur an additional monthly fee.
