POSITION TITLE: Dispatcher

DEPARTMENT: Police APPLICATION DEADLINE: OPEN UNTIL FILLED

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Operates the day-to-day telecommunication functions for the Police and Fire Departments by answering multiple phone lines and communicating with members of the general public, personnel from the Police and Fire departments, and other agencies; relays information, dispatches personnel as needed; provides general support and assistance to assigned supervisor, and generates computer files for all officer activities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Receives, evaluates, and directs incoming calls on both telephone and two-way radio to appropriate staff, officers, and/or agencies. Maintains, updates, and accesses various logs and files for all officer activities. Enters information into Texas and National Crime Information computer systems. Prepares bonds and accepts money for cash bonds and accepts various payments. May also act as receptionist, including answering telephones, taking messages, making copies, and providing information to employees and general public. Able and available to work all shifts including but not limited to: days, evenings, midnights, relief, holidays, weekends, call-in when necessary for coverage of emergencies and overtime when necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Requires high school graduation or its equivalent and/or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Possession of an appropriate, valid Texas driver’s license. Ability to earn a Telecommunicator Acknowledgement from TCLEOSE after the first year of employment. Ability to be licensed as a Notary Public.

SALARY RANGE: $15.82 - $21.40 per hr.

HIRING RANGE: $15.82 - $16.75 per hr.
