City announces mayor for a day contest
Colleyville, Texas…The city of Colleyville has announced the 2006 Mayor for a Day Contest. The contest is open to Colleyville students from grades 2-7. All contestants must submit a one- to two-page essay addressing what they would do to make Colleyville the best city in North Texas. Students must be Colleyville residents to win.

      The Mayor for a Day Contest was initiated by Mayor David Kelly in 2005 to promote the involvement of young people in city government. Last year’s contest was won by Kathryn Cotton, an eighth-grade student at St. Vincent’s Episcopal School.

      Contest entries must be submitted by Friday, Oct. 27. The winner will be announced Tuesday, Oct. 31 and will serve as honorary mayor on Tuesday, Nov. 7. He or she will co-preside with Mayor Kelly over the regularly scheduled city council meeting and spend part of the week meeting with city leaders and touring city facilities, including the Justice Center and fire department.
