Colleyville, Texas City Hall
County's oldest building arrives Saturday
Colleyville…Developer David Bagwell is erecting the oldest building in Tarrant County…tomorrow. Crews will begin erecting a New World Dutch barn, circa 1760, in his Whittier Heights subdivision in Colleyville. The barn has been imported from New York so it’s new to Texas, but its age will make it both one of the state’s newest and oldest structures. Bagwell is starting the project off with an old-fashioned “barn raising” Saturday, May 20, at 10:00 a.m. The public is invited to attend the all-day festivities.

New World Dutch barns were built primarily in the Mohawk and Hudson River Valleys of New York from the early 1600s until the early 1800s. The massive structures are comprised of huge hand-hewn posts and anchor beams assembled in an H-frame design to create a cathedral-like interior space. The building is notable for its New World Dutch post-and-beam joinery employed in buildings of its time.

Bagwell plans to us the barn as a place for meetings and special events.

Whittier Heights is located off of McDonwell School Road in Colleyville. To reach the barn site, exit Providence Road and follow the road until it ends.
