Colleyville, Texas…The city of Colleyville is taking the new law on open government seriously. The new state law, which requires public officials to have open-government training, went into effect Jan. 1. While the law offers officials the opportunity to receive the training by viewing online videos, Colleyville is going a step further by asking its public officials to take part in an evening dedicated to open government. Scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 22, Colleyville’s open-government training includes a panel discussion involving members of the media, a lawyer from the Tarrant County district attorney’s office and officials from the attorney general’s office. “In Colleyville, we’re dedicated to open government. As holders of the public trust, it’s essential that our public officials understand the rules and regulations that constitute open government. We think our citizens deserve nothing less,” remarked Bill Lindley, Colleyville city manager. Panel participants include: Katherine Minter Cary, Texas attorney general’s office; M.L. Calcote and Katie Henry, representatives from Senator Wentworth’s office (Senator Wentworth passed the law); Ann Diamond, Tarrant County district attorney’s office; Marie Jean Brown, Fort Worth Star-Telegram; and Brett Shipp, WFAA. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. at Colleyville Center, located at 5301 Riverwalk Drive |
