Q.  What is considered “too tall” for grass or weeds?

A. “It is unlawful to allow weeds, grass or any plant that is not cultivated to grow to a height in excess of 12 inches upon any property within the corporate limits of the City of Colleyville.”  Chapter Two of the City Code of Ordinances establishes a $50.00 notification fee.


Q.  Is a garage sale sign allowed?

A.  The purpose of a garage sale sign is to announce the sale of household possessions.  A garage sale sign shall be located only on the premises where the garage sale is being conducted and where there is an existing residential use.  A garage sale sign shall not be posted more than twenty-four (24) hours prior to the beginning of the sale and shall be removed within twenty-four (24) hours following the end of the sale.


Q.  What type of grand opening sign is allowed?

A.  Signs may include a combination of the following types of signs:

  • Advertising flags
  • Pennants
  • Streamers
  • A business tenant may choose one of the following types of sign structures:
    • Flexible banner
    • Stake sign
    • A-frame sign 
The following sign types are not permitted by the Colleyville sign ordinance:

  • Portable signs with changeable message boards
  • Signs with flashing or rotating lights
  • Inflatable balloons resembling anything other than a traditional hot-air balloon
