|
From the Dallas Business Journal Two Dallas high schools took the top spots on Newsweek magazine's 2007 list of America's best high schools. Dallas' School for the Talented and Gifted took the No. 1 spot on the list for the second year in the row. The No. 2 spot was held by Dallas' School of Science and Engineering, up from the No. 8 spot on the 2006 list. Both are magnet schools in the Dallas Independent School District. North Hills School in Irving ranked No. 13, down from No. 12 last year; and Highland Park High School in Dallas rose to No. 14 from 18th on the 2006 list. The only other local school in the top 100 was Colleyville Heritage High School, which was No. 95 on the list, up from No. 122 last year. A complete list is available in the magazine's May 28 issue. Newsweek ranked more than 1,200 public schools according to a ratio that added the number of advanced placement, international baccalaureate or Cambridge tests taken by students at a school and divided it by the number of graduating seniors.
