The City Secretary's Office serves as a document and information resource to the City Council, staff and citizens. 
The office also: - Maintains custody, filing, and storage of all legislation, minutes, and other written and recorded documents pertaining to the operation of city government
- Serves as the city's records management officer
- Conducts city elections
- Coordinates City Council meetings and is responsible for the recording and transcription of the official meeting minutes for permanent record
- Accepts petitions filed by citizens
- Acts as liaison with city departments, outside agencies, other branches of governments, and the general public on behalf of the City Council
- Responsible for documenting and following through on all requests of City Council for information, documents, and reports from various administrative units of municipal governments
- Responsible for the publication, updating and distribution of the Code of Ordinances
- Maintains board, commission and committee membership information
- Provides administrative assistance to the mayor and council members, and processes requests for the mayor's appearances, proclamations, certificates of appreciation, letters of greetings, etc.
