D Magazine names Colleyville Heritage to D/FW Top Ten list of schools
COLLEYVILLE HERITAGE MAKES THE GRADE

D Magazine ranks high school in D/FW Top 10 list

Colleyville, Texas…Colleyville Heritage (CHHS) and Grapevine (GHS) high school students received high marks in D Magazine’s review of the best (and worst) high schools in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. CHHS and GHS ranked fifth and eighth, respectively, in the popular magazine’s list, which is published in its April edition. Both are part of the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District (GCISD). Colleyville Heritage received top honors among Northeast Tarrant County high schools, followed closely by Grapevine.
GCISD schools consistently rank high on “best school” lists across the area and the nation. Other D/FW schools ranked in the Top 10 list were: Talented & Gifted (Dallas ISD), Science & Engineering Magnate (DISD), Highland Park (HPISD), and Booker T. Washington Magnate (Dallas ISD), Flower Mound (Lewisville ISD), Plano West (Plano ISD), and Coppell (Coppell ISD). Nearby Carroll Senior (Carroll ISD) held on for the last spot on the Top 10 list.
“It’s gratifying to represent a city that places a high emphasis on education. In Colleyville we’re fortunate to have an education trifecta—dedicated teachers and administrators, parents who are involved, and a student population that recognizes the value of education. Our school system continues to be one of our strongest assets,” remarked Colleyville Mayor David Kelly.
Rankings were based on achievement in Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs. AP and IB are college-level classes given in a high school environment that allow a student to earn college credit. University admission offices consider AP and IB involvement when assessing a student’s readiness for college. The magazine reviewed 109 high schools across the D/FW area for its 2006 list.
Colleyville continues to reap accolades for its education system. The city recently was named to CNN Money magazine’s list of “Best Places to Live in America.” The magazine listed education as one of its top criterion in the selection process.
