About NeighborWoods Improving the quality of our urban environment is important for many critical reasons. First, traffic congestion has increased the amount of pollutants in our immediate atmosphere, and more broadly the ozone. Trees act as a natural filter, limiting the effects of pollutants on the environment. Currently, the D/FW Metroplex is in a “non-attainment” zone, meaning pollution in the region exceeds standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency. Second, tree-cover limits the urban effect on local temperatures by cooling pavement and streets. Residents will enjoy shade produced by the canopy created by a full urban forest. Additionally, increased tree-cover serves as a wind-breaker in neighborhoods, lowering energy costs associated with environmental exposure on buildings. Finally, the city’s dense urban forest distinguishes Colleyville from other Metroplex cities. Colleyville has consistently been named a “Tree City USA,” illustrating the city’s commitment to the environment for not only its residents, but the entire Metroplex. The NeighborWoods Program ensures that the city will continue to promote environmental protection as a top priority. Program Goals
