Next Class Begins January 2009- Get your Application In Now Class VI of the Citizen Police Academy recently graduated and is preparing to join the Alumni Association. The Colleyville Police Department began its first Citizens’ Police Academy in August 2003 with nine participants. CPA application CPA Waiver This first class was made up of city officials, civic leaders and Colleyville residents. This class was exposed to the inner workings of the Colleyville Police Department and all of its divisions. Courses include crime scene investigation/fingerprinting, traffic enforcement and mock traffic stops, building search, arrest and handcuffing techniques, SWAT/HAZMAT/Bomb Squad equipment, drug education and much more. Participants were able to ask questions of the officers/instructors and have direct interaction with the materials and equipment they presented. Classes were once each week, three hours per class, for 12 consecutive weeks and a four-hour ride-out with a patrol officer. At the conclusion of the classes each graduating participant is issued a graduation certificate and an official Colleyville Citizens’ Police Academy polo shirt to wear whenever they assist the police department in activities in Colleyville. If you would like to better understand the Whys and Hows of the Colleyville Police Department; If you are a Colleyville resident, Colleyville business owner/employee or a member of any Colleyville civic organization; If you would like to be a Colleyville Police Volunteer; and will commit 40 hours to the program, you might be interested in enrolling in the next CPA. Colleyville Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association The graduates of the Colleyville Citizens’ Police Academies have formed the Colleyville Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association, as a non-profit volunteer organization. The purpose of this organization is to support the Colleyville Police Department efforts in keeping Colleyville one of the premier cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The CCPAAA volunteers will participate in city and police events by providing traffic direction, participating in bicycle safety clinics and safety fairs, etc. These events include but are not limited to Celebrate Colleyville, Home Town Heroes, Keep Colleyville Beautiful and Citizens on Patrol. Many of the alumni have volunteered with crime prevention efforts and special events for the past several years. The group’s goal is to assist the Colleyville Police Department in keeping Colleyville a safe community. |
