Colleyville Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association

The graduates of the Colleyville Citizens’ Police Academies have formed the
Colleyville Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association, as a non-profit volunteer
organization.  The purpose of this organization is to support the Colleyville Police
Department efforts in keeping Colleyville one of the premier cities in the
Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.  The CCPAAA volunteers will participate in city
and police events by providing traffic direction, participating in bicycle safety clinics
and safety fairs, etc.  These events include but are not limited to Celebrate Colleyville, Home Town Heroes, Keep Colleyville Beautiful and Citizens on Patrol.  Many of the alumni have volunteered with crime prevention efforts and special events for the past several years. The group’s goal is to assist the Colleyville Police Department in keeping Colleyville a safe community.

Citizens On Patrol

As part of a vision for a safer community, the Colleyville Police Department began the Citizens’ Police Academy over 6 years ago.  This program was initiated to seek out those in the community who wanted to give more by being part of the Colleyville Police Department and making Colleyville safer for their families and businesses.  The graduates of the Citizens Police Academy, CPA, have formed an alumni association the Colleyville Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, CCPAAA, that will be a 501(c)3 charity.  The Alumni have expressed a desire to create a Citizens On Patrol (C.O.P.) group that will assist the police on several levels.

In order to be part of the C.O.P. group, alumni must complete additional training on patrol techniques, radio procedures, observation skills and operating procedures.  This training enhances the member’s ability to recognize suspicious persons, vehicles and activities.  Those that complete the training and become part of the C.O.P. program will be allowed to patrol high crime areas, shopping areas where large numbers of persons and vehicles are located, direct traffic, assist on major crime scenes (when appropriate) and work crowd control at several city sponsored events in Colleyville.

The time donated by these individuals is a great benefit to not only the police but to the citizens and businesses of Colleyville.  Extra eyes and ears help keep crime rates down.  Nearby cities have implemented this program and have reduced crime and made their cities safer and this is what it can do for Colleyville.

If something like this interests you, consider enrolling in the next Citizens’ Police Academy that will begin in late January 2009.  Its lots of fun, interesting and educational and if you are one that wants to volunteer for the betterment of the community it gives you the opportunity to join the C.O.P. program.
