Geographic Information Systems


The engineering department also houses the GIS division. GIS stands for Geographic Information Systems. They combine location information, such as where a manhole is located; with tabular data, such as type and size of manhole.  GIS also provides analysis, maps, web mapping, and GPS services to all departments.
GIS is used in emergency planning for the Fire department and crime analysis for the Police department, as well as many other applications. GIS can also be seen on the web.
