H20 tower work begins

Work on the 1.5-million-gallon elevated water storage tank on Hall-Johnson Road has begun. The tower refurbishment is anticipated to be completed in late spring, depending on weather conditions.
The overhead tank will be sandblasted, repainted and refurbished, both inside and out, to meet the latest standards set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Required modifications to access hatches and drain structures also will be performed.
For the benefit of our residents, all work on the exterior of the tank will be done with full containment in place to prevent sandblast material and paint from drifting off-site.
This is accomplished with the use of "curtains" that are hoisted into place by a cable and winch system.
To avoid any inconvenience to residents and businesses, the project is timed to coincide with the low-water-demand winter months. The city's one-million-gallon water tank located on Bransford Road will provide adequate water storage and pressure to the water system during the entirety of the work on the Hall-Johnson tank. Water pressure, flow, and taste in residential and commercial areas should not be affected.
The Hall-Johnson tank has been in service since 1988. This is the first substantial upgrade since that time.
