School zone wireless ban

To provide a greater level of safety for our children, the city of Colleyville will enforce the state's ban on the use of handheld wireless devices in active school zones. The new state law went into effect Sept. 1.

The law prohibits the use of these devices in moving vehicles in any active school zone unless the vehicle is stopped or the wireless device is used with a hands-free accessory. Exceptions include making an emergency call to police, fire or emergency medical services and for public safety personnel acting in an official capacity.

Full enforcement in Colleyville is scheduled to begin Oct. 1. The misdemeanor offense carries a fine of up to $200.
