Colleyville Parks and Recreation Department Honored for Best Soccer and Baseball Fields

            Colleyville, Texas…
Players and spectators at Colleyville soccer and baseball fields have long known that the city’s playing fields are second to none. Now the city’s Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) is receiving recognition for those fields at state and national levels. The department recently was awarded the Texas Turfgrass Association’s (TTA) Baseball Field of the Year award for the fields at City Park and the Sports Turf Managers Association’s (STMA) Soccer Field of the Year award for the city’s Pleasant Run soccer fields.

“It takes only one visit to City Park or Pleasant Run Park during the baseball and soccer seasons to understand that these parks and their outstanding sports fields play a significant role in the lifestyles of families in Colleyville and the surrounding area,” remarked Mayor David Kelly.

“Our Parks staff set the professional bar extremely high when they set out to achieve these awards. It’s tremendously gratifying to see their hard work in developing and maintaining our sports fields recognized with these prestigious awards.”

The TTA and STMA are the most influential professional organizations in the sports turf management arenas. Competition for the coveted awards was intense, as Colleyville’s Parks and Recreation Department outmatched competitors across the state and nationally to win the respective awards.

In January, the Colleyville PARD opened Phase I of McPherson Park in the city’s northwest quadrant, culminating two years of design and construction work on the project. In 2007, the department introduced the first Evos™ play structure, a revolutionary design in children’s playscapes, at Sparger Park. It was the first of its kind in Texas, and one of only five in the nation. The city’s second Evos™ playscape was unveiled at McPherson Park last month.
